Why here, why now

Ask people in Cape Town about trust, and many will tell you it is in short supply. Between neighbourhoods. Between people and the systems meant to serve them. Across lines this city knows too well.

And yet. A taxi driver waits for the passenger who is running late. A shop owner extends credit on a handshake. A grandmother minds three families' children on her stoep. Trust has not left Cape Town. It lives in small pockets, quiet and scattered, between people who rarely name it.

The Festival of Trust Cape Town gathers those pockets in one place. It does not lecture the city about what it lacks. It helps the people in the room notice the trust they already carry, and take one small step to grow it.

What the day is

A day of meeting, making, and honest conversation. You will:

• Share a table, and a meal, with people from parts of the city you do not usually cross into.
• Take part in the arts: music, story, and making, because trust is felt before it is spoken.
• Join small conversations about where trust lives in your life, and where it strains.
• Leave with one thing you want to carry on: a person to call, a conversation to continue, a small thing to start.

There is no audience here. Everyone takes part.

Who it is for

Anyone who lives, works, or belongs in Cape Town. Young and old. People who have never met and people who should. You do not need to know anyone, or bring anything, or prepare. You only need to come open to the day.

This festival is one pocket. Cape Town's is one of many, in cities and communities across the world, slowly connecting into a wider web.
